Meter Information

How to Read Your Meter:

Some customers like to keep tabs on how much electricity they are using. The newer meters have digital displays which are easier to read. Those meters will display 888888 as a character check and then the current reading. If your meter has dials follow this simple procedure to read your meter. First stand directly in front of the meter. Start with the right hand dial. If the dial hand points between two numbers, write down the lower of the two numbers. Continue in the same manner with other dials, working from right to left, to obtain the correct reading.

Electric Meter Accuracy:

The Arizona Corporation Commission requires electric meters to be accurate within 3 percent of true kilowatt-hour usage. We strive to keep this error at less than two-tenths of 1 percent. To accomplish this we have made the decision to purchase only electronic meters which are designed to remain with in two-tenths of 1 percent for their entire life span and typically test well within one-tenth of 1 percent. This ensures fair and equal billing for all consumers and enables us to spend less labor calibrating meters. Meters are tested by the manufacturer and by Trico before installation.

After installation, we continue to monitor the performance of the many types of electric meters we use to assure their accuracy. In fact, very few other products maintain their accuracy as well as an electric meter over its 30 to 40 year life span.

Meter Tampering:

Meter tampering, or any other method of current diversion used by a member to receive un-metered electric service, is illegal and the offender risks prosecution by law.

Trico’s policy is to investigate complaints about members who have allegedly tampered with meters or with any other cooperative equipment or property for the purpose of receiving electric service that has not been charged to their accounts.
If conclusive proof of current diversion is found, service to the member will be discontinued immediately.
Legal action may be initiated, and the cooperative will be entitled to collect the following from the member whose name the service is in:

The appropriate rate for all power and energy not recorded on the meter as the result of such tampering, or other theft of service.
Any additional security deposits as well as damages for the costs of investigation of the illegal act and all legal expenses.
If necessary, Arizona law allows Trico to collect triple damages from power thieves.

Automated Meter Reading:

Trico has chosen a combination of automated meter-reading systems that cost-effectively meet the needs of Trico and our members. Currently, we are in the process of deploying these technologies system wide and may be changing your meter soon. The installations are scheduled to efficiently complete the project, and therefore we regretfully cannot accept scheduling requests in most cases. Call our metering department if you would like further information about this new technology.
