Home Energy Savings Ideas - Save money on your energy bill!
Trico can help its residential members identify where a home uses energy and how that energy may be used more efficiently. A member services representative can conduct an energy survey over the telephone or you may ask for an energy savings pamphlet and survey form to review at your convenience. During the telephone survey, we'll analyze your billing data to identify trends and variances, then conduct an informal survey of your home. Leaking water heaters, refrigerator/freezer compressor failure, and defrosting cycle malfunction can greatly affect electric consumption of the appliance. You'll also be asked about the construction of your home, thermostat settings and appliance maintenance schedules. Next we'll make recommendations that can help you save money.

CFLs save energy, emissions and money!
Replacing a single incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent bulb can save you as much as $30! And it greatly reduces power plant emissions.
Interesting CFL facts:
- Eevery CFL used can prevent more than 450 pounds of emissions from a power plant over the CFLs lifetime.
- A coal-fired power plant will emit 13.6 milligrams of mercury to produce enough electricity to power an regular light bulb; it will use 3.3 milligrams of mercury to power a CFL.
- CFLs use *at least* 2/3 less energy than regular light bulbs and can last as much as 10 times longer; some CFLs use 3/4 less energy than regular light bulbs.
- Generate 70 percent less heat than regular light bulbs.
- Can fit a variety of indoor and outdoor fixtures; according to the Energy Star web site, some CFLs can be used for 3-way lamps, recessed lights, torchieres and dimmer lights. Buyers should check the packaging for details.
- 'Long-life' incandescent light bulbs last about 2,000 hours; standard CFLs last about 6,000 hours+.
- CFLs come in a variety of colors, from cool to warm.
- CFLs range in price from $2 to $19, depending on functionality.
